A Calm Moment of Care
Here at Kapiti PetVilla we care for cats and dogs of all shapes and sizes, and most guests enjoy their stay like a little holiday. Occasionally, though, a pet may need some extra attention while in our care – for example a booster vaccination for long-term guests, or because they’re simply not quite themselves.
When this happens, the first thing we do is monitor closely and contact you. We explain what we’re seeing and ask if there is any relevant background we should know, such as past health history or recent changes. Many situations can already be clarified this way.
If a vet visit is needed, there are several options, depending on the situation.
- One option is visiting your usual vet, which is why we ask for your vet details during registration. We take your pet to the clinic, stay with them during the appointment, wait for the consultation, and bring them back to PetVilla. For local Kapiti vets, our Pet Taxi & Wait Service (up to 45min) is $39 plus Vet consultation fees (depending on your vet, most likely in the range of $75-$90) and medication are billed by the clinic and are usually settled after your return.
- If something happens after hours, on weekends, or on public holidays and cannot wait, we can take your pet to the local after-hours clinic at Vets at Riverbank. Their service is unique in our region and provides reliable urgent care outside normal clinic hours. The consulting fee are higher as this is an after-hour service by the vet.
- The newest option available is VetVan, a mobile vet service that comes directly to Kapiti PetVilla. This is particularly well suited for booster vaccinations, more detailed health checks and blood tests. Medication is often provided straight away, allowing treatment to start immediately.
A little more about VetVan:
With VetVan, Alice and Natalie with their Team of Nurses – see your pet right here in their familiar environment. There’s no transport, no waiting room, and no other unknown Cats & Dogs nearby. This makes the experience significantly less stressful, especially for cats, senior pets, or nervous dogs.

The VetVan consultation fee is $140, while medication costs are generally comparable to local clinics. As no Pet Taxi Service is required, that cost did not apply. Like other veterinary expenses, mobile-vet visits are often covered by pet insurance.

If further diagnostics are required, such as X-rays, VetVan can take your pet to their hub for those checks and return them afterwards.
Whenever a health concern arises, we contact you or your nominated emergency contact to discuss whether you would like us to continue monitoring, visit your usual vet, or arrange a mobile-vet appointment. If neither can be reached and we believe the situation cannot wait, we will act in your pet’s best interest in line with our Terms and duty of care.
Our focus is always the same: your pet’s wellbeing, minimal stress, and keeping you informed.
If your pet needs a booster, feels unwell, or simply isn’t themselves while staying with us, you can be assured they’ll be looked after carefully and thoughtfully.
